Daily Ramble
It's Sunday night again, where did the time go ? More and more lately I realise how quickly time goes by. It's has been over a year since I moved to Durban, and so much as happened. I spent most of this weekend working on Diago.co.za, except during the massive storm we had here last night. Lightning hit the house twice and killed the power, and both me and Michelle were convinced the ADSL line will be down when we bring it back up. However it wasn't down, amazing considering that every storm we've had since we got the line has killed it. With a 2-3 day wait for Telkom to come and fix it. I am not going to complain thought, I don't need to jinx it just yet.
On the work front, I finally have a permanent position. I have been working for Bytes Systems Integration for 3 months as a contractor, and about 2 weeks before the end of my contract they made me an offer for a permanent position as a developer. Apart from a good salary, I finally have the stability of a permanent position again after a year of searching. I still can't believe how hard it has become to get a good position in South Africa, and even more amazed at how bad some companies can treat their employees. The two positions I had before this one truly tested by patience and ability, however I believe they were good lessons on the road forward, and after 11 years I finally found a company I enjoy working for.
On the home front we've finally started settling in. We moved to Musgrave about 4 months ago and over December moved one floor down from where we were. With having to work in between and it being Christmas it wasn't the best time to move and we didn't get to do much of what we had planned to, however it all came together well and we are finally settling. Unfortunately they broke into our VW Golf over the weekend and also stole my father-in-law's mobile phone, however he is uninjured and that is all that really matters. The golf's radio and back window needs to replaced at some point however.
My dad bought himself a new car, a brand new Corsa Lite 1.4. He recently got a promotion and as part of his package a car allowance, and he had to trade in the car he has had for the last 11 years. I was highly surprised when he emailed me a picture of it over the weekend and also very impressed with how quickly he learned how to use email and his new notebook, his birthday present last year. I am hoping to go to JHB soon to visit them again.
I hope everyone has a brilliant week!
