Daily Ramble
I woke up to the realisation this morning that the first part of the year is gone. It seems to be moving quicker then I imagined, then again I say that every year. The last month has been extremely busy. I am still trying to finalise issues with the Helpdesk Project I am involved in, the Wearcheck project is being reworked due to major changes by the client, Toyota wants GPS support added to the AMS system. My list of projects keeps getting longer, and the time keeps getting shorter. I have not been able to focus as much on my own stuff as I had hoped, but starting this afternoon some serious time management is going to be applied to the June schedule.
SA Developer.Net KZN was well supported at DevDays 2007. Due to this there is a slight restructuring happening this month regarding venues, sponsors and content of the meets, which will be revealed by the end of the first week of June. We've had some interesting discussions with people since DevDays, and a few meetings are scheduled to finalise all the details. I am extremely excited about some of the things being planned for the KZN charter, and hopefully we will be able to replenish the community again. Apart from SA Developer.Net I am also becoming more involved with Universities and Colleges, doing talks to students about development, the future of developers as well as the new technologies Microsoft is releasing.
Michelle has become extremely interested in Silverlight since viewing the demonstrations at DevDays. She often amazes me with how quickly she can grasp concepts and ideas, and then implement them into solutions. Over the next few months we are working together to get MCTS certified, in both Web and Windows. I am still waiting for someone to confirm sending me the Orcas Beta 1 DVD, since I really want to start working with some of the new features available as seen at DevDays. We also have an in house project we want to start using the new technologies in .Net 3.0 and .Net 3.5. This was motivated after viewing the DinnerNow.Net presentation at the DevDays Keynote. Michelle is also getting more involved in SharePoint and Microsoft Office 2007.
Craig pointed me to the Community Credit website last month, and I joined. After submitting all my points for May, I won 3rd prize, with Andre winning 1st and Craig winning 9th. Congratulations to both of you. I think the concept behind the site is brilliant, and friendly competition is never a bad thing. The prizes are silly but a brilliant idea, and the grand prize always something interesting.
There is no new additions to the family this month. We have a fairly quite month ahead socially, and hopefully we will get around to do some of the things we have been threatening to do for some time now, which includes the blog conversions and updates to some of the other community projects we are involved in.
