Daily Ramble
This week started off way to quickly. It's already Tuesday and weekends are starting to seem way to short. My projects are behind but I am slowly breaking ground, and will hopefully be back on track by next week. In the meantime I may be going to Newcastle to do an installation of some servers for BTG. This is giving us the perfect opportunity to visit Michelle's brother who is a teacher out there. We haven't had much time away from home since we moved to Durban, and it will be a nice break from the normal routine we have fallen into lately. He recently bought himself a new notebook, which Michelle collected in Balito.
I've been feeling extremely tired, although I am sleeping a lot lately. I think winter and stress is big factors contributing to this, and I really need to boost my system somehow. I generally don't tend to look after myself fairly well, and the last few bouts of flu seems to be proof. I also seem to have become more and more scatterbrained lately and getting concerned that it may be something more then just a habit. I am currently looking forward to my month long holiday over the Christmas season, which I have already got approved. Sounds early but time is going so fast that it won't be long before year end is on top of us again.
Michelle was robbed at the Pavilion yesterday. She went up to Baby City and tried to pass a group of people take up all the walkway, and someone tripped her. She fell and they held her down while grabbing her mobile phone. Thankfully she is ok and they didn't get anything else. I went through to meet her and she was shaken but we went to go look again to make sure it didn't just drop somewhere. There was no gutters for it to fall into. She has been complaining about a sore foot and back, so we are monitoring her at the moment to see if she needs to go to the doctor. Mall management however didn't seem particularly fazed by the fact that she was robbed, and I am highly unimpressed with their lack of offering any assistance whatsoever. However this seems to be a general attitude in KZN and one I am quickly getting used to.
Our dogs are doing fine, with Xena growing at an incredible rate. Brat has also integrated well with all the cats. Being winter they are now spending more and more time indoors, seeking heat and attention, both of which the two heaters and three occupants are providing. The weather in KZN has been fluctuating between extreme cold to mild heat. One of my colleagues are selling Labrador puppies, however at this stage we are not adding to the family. You can't walk into a room in our house where you are not bound to meet up with one of the 8 bandits running around, and something I really enjoy. Somehow they bring a sense of peace into the environment.
Time for me to get back to work. I am hoping to catch up on some technology entries in the next few days. I have become a bit despondent after reading some very biased and one sided posts and entries lately on various blogs regarding technology and the industry. I am often amazed how software developers cannot seem to understand why certain technologies come at a cost, whereas others are easily promoted as open source. I am starting to believe that most developers do not require money to live on, and someone survive through a magical means that I have not been informed about when I became such a creature. Anyone want to fill me in to the secret ?
